Manchester City’s CEO Garry Cook, a former Nike executive, appeared at a press conference today to talk about the club’s new manager Roberto Mancini.
After reading out the usual self-serving statement he was goaded into speaking unprompted by the disbelieving hacks. and this is what he said, “there’s an overwhelming theory that there’s a conspiracy (he didn’t specify about what although it was clearly Mark Hughes). We’re not going to commit to that.”
Shortly afterwards he observed, “there are no conspiracy theories.” So what was he talking about?
These must be among the most fatuous sentences ever uttered by even a football ‘executive.’
And came after he had admitted the club’s desert kingdom owners had been touting other managers before Mark Hughes was fired. So if they mean what we think he meant to say, they were lies too.
If the square-jawed Cook survives the season Sheikh Mansour and his mates are even dafter than we think.
