Two sensible appeal court judges ruled today that details of UK subject Binyam Mohamed's alleged torture in Morocco in 2002 should be released, despite the British government's desperate attempts to keep them secret. Foreign secretary David Miliband promptly appealed the decision (again) and was all over the airwaves saying that details of secret intelligence shared between nations were 'inviolable,' no matter what wickedness they revealed. This presumably means that, had Great Britain learned from German intelligence in the 1930s that Jews were being killed to order (as they had started to be) the British government should have remained schtum about it. Miliband's Jewish family fled from Germany in the 1930s for precisely that reason. Come on David, grow up. You weren't even foreign secretary in 2002.

Why is David Miliband so scared?

Surely the real question is why is this case going through the British Courts, as Binyam Mohamed is an Ethiopian national? We have enough problems without taking on worthy causes on behalf of other countries. Just as a side issue Mohamed’s activities in Pakistan before his arrest were pretty murky to say the least !

Fine, release all the information we give you. Just don’t expect us to give you any more information in the future. You act like these are British documents that are being released… this is American intelligence that we had no obligation to share with the British… and if this ruling isn’t overturned you can be damned sure that no more classified information will be shared with your government. Imagine if we broke the ENIGMA code in WWII but if we told the Brits they were publicise it… well you get the picture.
