David Beckham is returning to Major League Soccer team LA Galaxy from a five-month loan at AC Milan (doesn’t the guy need a rest?), to be greeted by some frosty observations from captain Landon Donovan.
A Sports Illustrated article claims that Becks was a rotten captain when he had the job, skimped on training and didn’t put his hands in his capacious pockets as often as he might have done.
One player refers to him as “alligator arms.”
It’s certainly true that LA Galaxy have so far failed to thrive with Becks in the team, which might not be all his fault of course.
Soccer should be enjoying a boom in the US following the national team’s Confederations Cup triumphs (they lost 2-0 to Brazil in the final after being two goals up and put out European champions Spain).
But it might be doing so without David Beckham for much longer.
