Stuart Dickinson is a self-regarding Australian rugby referee who often seems to find himself as the TMO, in effect the video referee, in important test matches.
Two years ago he ruled that England’s Mark Cueto had put a foot in touch when he appeared to have scored the try that might have won the World Cup final against Australia and on Saturday he ruled that South Africa’s Jaque Fourie, in identical circumstances but with far less revealing pictures to look at, hadn’t.
Which almost certainly cost the Lions the second test and the series against South Africa.
Even the French referee, hardly Monsieur Decisive admittedly, seemed surprised at the decision.
What’s the betting that Dicko turns up in the autumn to ref one of the home nations’ matches against a southern hemisphere team.
So we won’t be winning that one either.
