Britain’s Got Talent favourite Susan Boyle has been carted off to the Priory clinic under the Mental Health Act, rather taking the gloss off the huge audience the BGT final attracted to ITV on Saturday.
BGT is essentially a Simon Cowell production, whatever Piers Morgan, Amanda Holden and ITV may think. Cowell’s the one who invented this combination of talent show and theatre of cruelty and he’s the one who makes the biggest money through recording deals with Sony BMG.
Boyle’s apparent breakdown is a reminder that there’s a price to be paid for all this.
