Well he’s available on a free transfer from Newcastle and will probably be prepared to take a drop on his £100,000 a week (no-one really knows) wages.
But he always seems to be injured and, when he came back in the last few games of the season for Alan Shearer in the Toon’s losing battle against relegation, he was hopeless. Shearer should have played Obafemi Martins and left Owen on the bench, that way he might have stayed up.
It’s amazing that a player as brilliant as Owen was in 1998 is so average now. He seems to have lost his pace, through injuries presumably, but also his ambition.
So will David Moyes at Everton (Owen grew up as a Toffees supporter and still lives in the north west) or Martin O’Neill at Aston Villa rescue him?
Maybe with a decent manager telling him to get off his bum he might start playing again.
But is the prospect really worth two and half million quid in wages?
