The job in question being Tourism Queensland's offer of a post on a fully serviced island off the coast for about £70,000 a year. Unsurprisingly this picked up the Lion award for best PR campaign at the Cannes ad fest currently taking place. Well it would wouldn't it, as just about every paper wrote about it? Chairman of the inaugural PR jury Tim Bell even seemed a bit lost for words in announcing the winner, something that doesn't happen very often. Skill doesn't really come into it. But Tim earned his spurs working for rather less appealing propositions like Margaret Thatcher and General Pinochet. C'mon, you need a challenge in this game. That's the true test of a PR campaign of course, making something unpalatable palatable. Maybe they should call it the Dr Goebbels award?
