Villified former Haringey children’s boss Sharon Shoesmith, fired following the death of Baby P, is suing Haringey under sex discrimination rules for the loss of her job.
Her lawyers will no doubt be studying the trial of Austrian monster Josef Fritzl, who imprisoned his daughter Elizabeth and had seven children by her.
Why? Because Shoesmith unwisely announced, in all the hue and cry, that there was nothing a social services department could do if a parent, behind closed doors, was really hell-bent on abusing or killing a child.
Which is a statement of the bleedin’ obvious, as the Fritzl case makes clear (he’s also accused of murdering some of Elizabeth’s offspring). We’ve seen it here with Fred West and Harold Shipman.
As to suing under sex discrimination rules, that really is a lawyer’s wheeze.
But it’s children’s secretary Ed Balls’ fault for being led by the nose by the Sun newspaper and not following due process in his efforts to dismiss Shoesmith.
