If there is it may be poor Kate Winslet in The Reader who cops it later tonight, even though it’s been announced in some quarters that she’s won already.
Winslet is still only 4/9 with most bookies to win, ahead of two-time winner Meryl Streep for Doubt. Kate hasn’t won an Oscar yet, despite loads of nominations, so it’s a toss-up if there’ll be more tears if she loses than if she wins (not that we’ll ever know of course).
Well let’s hope she does win and we can get it over with.
But Mr Blatherskite can’t help thinking that an Academy with lots of Jewish members might have mixed feelings about giving such a gong to an actress giving a relatively sympathetic portrayal of a former SS security guard.
Mr B is putting his money on the late Heath Ledger as best supporting actor for his role in the latest Batman film. But at 1/41 he won’t be booking that Caribbean jaunt just yet.
