DC comics is to bring back Batwoman, killed off in 1979 as lesbian socialite Kath Kane who inherits Batman's cowl (he was killed off in November it seems although he's bound to return) as crime-stopper in chief. Batwoman is five foot ten inches tall and considerably more formidable than even that in her high-heeled red stiletto boots. Writer Greg Rucka has admitted that the lesbian bit will cause "issues" but explains that being a lesbian is "part of her character, not her character" and she should be judged on her merits. Quite so. But when she reappears in June how will Greg and his colleagues display her lesbianism? Not by showing scenes of a graphic nature one trusts. Not that this would deter villainous film producers who will already be salivating at the prospect of a rampant Batwoman. And which Hollywood star will play her? Angelina Jolie will be top of the bookmakers' lists.

Stand by for lesbian Batwoman
