Friday night with Jonathan Ross returns to BBC 1 on Friday, Wossy’s first broadcast since he was suspended for three months for being rude about dancer Georgina Baillie (alias Voluptua) on her grandfather, ex-Fawlty Towers star, Andrew Sach’s mailbox.
Fellow partner in crime Russell Brand (who’s not so far scheduled to return to the BBC although he has been on Channel 4) has already come under the spotlight this week, hacks packing the stalls at his current set of live gigs.
Brand, inevitably given his penchant for trouble, includes a lot of ‘Sachsgate’ material in his act, although nothing too outlandish as far as Mr Blatherskite can discern (turning up in person would just be too much).
Will Ross be so bold?
Well he’s got to say something, if he doesn’t he’ll look a wimp and his guests Lee Evans and Stephen Fry will surely pitch in even if he doesn’t. The shows are recorded though, so how brave will the Beeb be?
The third, and star, guest is Tom Cruise, promoting his coolly-received new film Valkyrie about the failed 1944 plot to kill Hitler.
There was some talk of Cruise declining to appear when he learned of the Sachs farrago (amazingly not big news in America) but Cruise says he’s appeared with Ross before and survived the experience (which is more than Cruise’s reputation for sanity has after some of his talk show appearances).
It’s interesting though that there are no gals on the show. Among Ross’s past misdemeanours have been offers to ’shag’ the more pulchritudinous guests, including a startled Gwyneth Paltrow.
But will Wossy’s audience, large on this occasion presumably, warm to the cleaned-up presenter?
A test indeed for the naughty boy, 48.
