Mexico City pensioners will have a spring in their step from next month when the city’s health department starts handing out Viagra and equivalent drugs to men over 70.
The caballeros viejos will be able to queue up at one of three health centres in the city to receive their free regular medication, which has been ordered for them by city mayor Marcelo Ebrard. In a moving statement Marcelo said that sexuality “has a lot to do with quality of life and our happiness.”
Bet Ken Livingstone wishes he’d thought of that one before his mayoral joust with Boris Johnson in London last year.
Indeed, given his track record in extra-curricular amours, Boris is probably calling for a report on the Mexico City initiative this very week.
