But 2009 marks the 50th anniversary of the formation of the group, once hoped to be the UK’s answer to Elvis Presley et al, so the line-up of Cliff with Hank Marvin, Bruce Welch and drummer Brian Bennett, will tour the UK next autumn.
Mr Blatherskite’s uncle wonders if they’ll find room in the line-up for former guitarist Jet Harris, who is 70 in 2009. Fender king Harris quit the band in 1962 but has played occasionally with them since.
But say what you like about Cliff and the Shads (bland, uninteresting etc) the boys have got staying power.
Let’s hope they all make it to the starting line-up next autumn and some enterprising TV producer records it for posterity.
