Actually the world's supposed to end tomorrow when some mad scientists try to replicate Big Bang under a mountain in Switzerland (we'll keep you...) Mama Mia, based on the Abba musical, has won best musical and Meryl Streep best actress at something called the National Movie Awards in London. As if we needed another movie awards. Mama Mia is actually a load of amateurish old tosh and Meryl Streep cavorting around as an ex-hippy femme fatale is just embarrassing. But the prizes were voted by moviegoers rather than a jury so I suppose it's an obvious enough choice as shedloads of moviegoers (including, alas, me) went to see it. But it's typical of the film that whenever it flags, which is often, they push someone (usually Julie Walters) into the adjacent Greek harbour to get a laugh. As to the world ending we'll do our best to cover it for you but events beyond our control may of course intervene.

You’re so wrong…..Mamma Mia! is an amazing movie and don’t get mad when it scores a Best Musical or Comedy nod (and maybe win) at the GG, and Meryl will be nominated for Best Actress in Musical or Comedy for sure.

I’m sorry you didn’t like it but, you know, it grossed (by now) 420 millon and counting…..so maybe people don’t agree with you.

That’s “M-a-m-m-a” Mia! I see you’ve been paying attention and actually saw the movie (not!). Sheesh.

I went with my daughter to see Mamma Mia! It was, like the curate’s egg, “good in parts”. A lot of it was, shall we say, cheesy but it was fun and there’s nothing wrong with that. And, it was also a film that I wasn’t embarrassed to watch with my daughter.

    Just saw it…
Fortunately we sat in the back row of a near empty theater. Three of us just laughed at how actually BAD it was. It was unfortunate because I love Streep and she did the best she could with this one…but please. It was about as lame a musical as I have ever seen…and I’ve seen just about every musical since OKLAHOMA and THIS is off the charts for lame. My opinion was very unexpected…I thought I’d enjoy it in spite of some of the reviews. Nope…bad bad bad.
