Cliff Richard reveals his best friend

Veteran popster Sir Cliff Richard has revealed that he’s living with a US former missionary John McElynn.

McElynn who, by the size of him is of the muscular Christian persuasion, looks after Cliff’s many houses (Tony Blair and family used to holiday at his pad in Barbados) and charitable interests.

Cliff, who was rather half-heartedly linked with tennis player Sue Barker a decade or two ago, has declined to spill the beans on exactly what their relationship is but has revealed that he thinks the Church of England should review its position on same sex marriages. Which is a clue, I suppose.

Anyway good for Cliff, an astonishingly well-preserved 67. One of his famous tunes was Batchelor Boy (I was never a fan of his singing myself) and such, it seems, he will remain.

Can’t Cliff have a friend to go around with. Who says that the priest is gay anyway. If two gals are best pals nothing much is thought of it, but if two chaps go out, well, that is a different matter altogether. No wonder boys like to go around in groups.
Cliff has always said that it is noone’s business re gayness.
I would think he is right as a gay person surely can’t change at all and they deserve some happiness if they find someone to share their life with. Doubt Cliff is gay though. I think he is just a sensible guy!

A lot of people said they saw him (Cliff) coming out of gay bars in the past ( on some websites) and stuff so I think it is safe to say he is gay. And I don’t think he is a real Christian or he would not be in a gay bar. If you are gay be gay and if you are a high moral clean living person then be one of the two but don’t be a hypocrite which is worse using the Lord to Ihide behind. And the priest Cliff is friends with is an ex-priest. I bet Billy Graham would not go in a gay bar and would not conone the lifestyle either.

A very close lady friend did say on the media that she felt Cliff was being manipulated by someone he had in the house, some time ago. Gone now. I wonder why Cliff has not come out with this in the past. He has never struck me as being gay at all though. There are gay Christians though and the sad part is they can’t go with the opposite sex at all. Somehting is certainly different in their make-up for sure. If say Cliff is gay, he should come out and acknowledge his friend!

I agree with Lacey but it was a Cliff impersonator that went in the bars not Cliff himself. Cliff did not say he was gay he just said people that are should have the right to gay marriage.

As Cliff has said many times, it is nobody else’s business. He has been very open about all his previous relationships. For many years he shared his home with a friend and his mother. That friend had a girlfriend with whom he eventually went on to set up house together - sorry have temporarily forgotten the guy’s name. Anyway he had a well documented relationship with Sue Barker and with Adam Faith’s widow Jacqi before she married Adam Faith that is! There will always be people willing to speculate but Cliff knows right from wrong and he will be guided by his conscience.

Why can’t you just leave him alone. I have been a fan of Cliff’s a long time and if he’s happy good for him. He’s given so much of himself to fans around the world for 50 years. What difference does it make he has a Companion. Everybody get a life, there’s so much happening around us to be even commenting on this.

Lacey - you are completely wrong in what you say.
Read the Bible (Leviticus 18:22 for example) and you will see that there is nothing in it that condemns people of gay orientation or states that going to a gay bar is “unChristian”. Homosexual pratice is condemned (which is obviously a hotly debated issue) but Jesus emphasises that loving God and belief in His message is paramount to being a Christian.
He also emphasises the fact that everyone sins.
I’m confused by your comment “if you are gay be gay and if you are a high moral clean living person then be one of the two but don’t be a hypocrite” - there’s nothing immoral or unclean about possessing a homosexual orientation.
Fundamentally Jesus taught that we are all hypocrites and we all do bad things and mess up, that doesn’t mean we can’t love God or have a strong faith. For example Martin Luther King Jr. was an adulterer (strongly opposed to core Christian ideals) but I dont think anyone would say he was a bad example of a Christian or immoral.
If Sir Cliff was known to be engaging with homosexual activity you might have a leg to stand on, but the truth is, there is no evidence to support this.
Faith isnt black and white, nor is sexuality or morality.
Open your eyes and your mind!

These Bible verses are against male homosexuality: Leviticus Chapter 20 verse 13 says If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death. Their blood will be on their own hands. And in Romans Chapter 1 verse 27 it says In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed in the lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. What I mean is if you are going to do immoral things do them but don’t say you are a Christian and do them because if you do them you are not a Christian. If you are a man and you lie with a man as with a woman then you are clearly going against what the Bible says ansd and are not a real Christian.

Cliff has several homes and has said he is a bit of a nomad, which means he gets around a lot and stays in several of his homes when he wants to. He also has lots of friends, relatives, nephews, nieces too that he visits. He is a busy boy and has a fantastic life. Good on him. He won’t jump into marriage just to please people either. Imagine if the marriage broke down, wouldn’t there be a lot of speculation. He is a solid person and thankfully does not let what people think about his personal life get him down. Una Stubbs has been in the news too.
