Actually it does shock lots of people, well not the pay per se but the expenses on the now notorious ‘John Lewis’ list (organic jacuzzis and that kind of thing).
They’ve just voted themselves a two per cent pay rise but kept all the exes (as I would, but the nation will still be outraged).
But it’s difficult to keep tabs on the nation’s legislators these days. Here’s the usually magisterial Simon Hoggart of the Guardian on Gordon Brown’s recent appearance before some committee or other; you know, the one where Tony Blair used to turn up and ad lib for a couple of hours.
Trouble is, Simon’s still so enraged about his journey that he just can’t concentrate (but would you take the District Line thinking you might get somewhere)?
A sign of the times, no doubt.
