Rafa Benitez of Liverpool has probably been the luckiest Champion’s League manager ever at Liverpool (although he did lose two finals with Valencia).
But his luck ran out tonight, when John-Arne Riise chose to head a ball he should have booted away and expertly directed it into Liverpool’s goal in the 94th minute.
At 1-1 with a home leg to come, Chelsea should win it from here.
They may not, of course, but if Avram gets to the final in Moscow will Chelsea owner Roman Abramovitch do what all the hacks want and get rid of him?
In the meantime all-conquering Manchester United play at Barcelona in the other semi-final Wednesday.
They’re in some sort of form, Barcelona ain’t.
I’ve just got this feeling it could all go pear-shaped for Man U. They might come up against a referee who’ll send Wayne Rooney off for one of his regular bouts of petulance, for instance.
We’ll see. And report soon.
